Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple is situated in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple can be visited only by the Hindus.  There is a strict dress code while entering the temple for men (dhoti without any kind of shirt) and women (sari or skirt and blouse). It is the richest Hindu temple in the world. The elegant and splendid idol of Lord Vishnu is reclining over a 5 hooded serpent called Anantha. The idol of the Lord is very fascinating as it displays the supreme trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva). Out of the navel of Lord’s statue a lotus is seen as coming out over which Lord Brahma (the protector) is sitting. That is why Vishnu is also called Padmanabha. Under the right palm of the stretched out hand of Padmanabha there is a Shiva lingum, completing all three powers into one.

The principal deity Vishnu is enshrined in the “Anantha Shayanam” posture, the eternal yogic sleep on the serpent Adisheshan.Sree Padmanabhaswamy is the tutelary deity of the royal family of Travancore. The titular Maharaja of Travancore Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma is the trustee of the temple as Sree Padmanabhadasa, the slave of Lord Padmanabha. In line with the Temple Entry Proclamation, only those who profess the Hindu faith are permitted entry to the temple and devotees have to strictly follow the dress code.The name of the city of Thiruvananthapuram in Malayalam translates to “The City of Lord Ananta”, referring to the deity of Padmanabhaswamy Temple.

How to reach Thiruvananthapuram

By Air – After you Reach Trivandrum Airport , you can travel in a Local Bus, Auto or Taxi towards East Fort (Kizhakkekotta). From East Fort it is only walkable distance towards the Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple.

By Train – You can get off at the Central Railway Station in Thampanoor, Trivandrum.  From there it is only 1 km towards the temple. You should take a Auto towards the temple. There is no need for picking Taxi to reach the temple. Only if you want to travel to other places, you should take taxi.

By Bus – The Bus Stand will be at Thampanoor in Trivandrum and from there the temple is only 1 km away. Take an Auto and you can comfortably reach the temple b paying an auto fare about Rs 15 to 20.

From Kovalam you can reach the Sri Anantha Padmanabhaswamy Temple which will be about 20 km away. There are many KSRTC AC Low Floor Bus available from Kovalam towards East Fort. The Bus fare will just Rs. 25 to 30 per person.

This is the best trip to be taken from Kovalam and this prevents getting cheated by Taxi drivers and Auto drivers, who ask for lot of money for taking you to the temple from Kovalam.
