Hampi

Hampi is one of the best historical place in the world. It is a village located in north Karnataka and was a capital of Vijayanagara empire. Hampi has most significant buildings and places that explains architectural importance of Vijayanagar kingdom.  It is located on the banks of river Tungabhadra in Karnataka. The Virupaksha temple is the most important building in Hampi. Other places are Vijayavittala temple, elephant stables, Hampi Bazar, Monolith Bull,Old Palace, Matanga Hill, Archeological Museum, Lotus Palace,Hazara Rama temple, Lakshmi Narasimha temple which are build in Vijayanagara style of architecture. Hampi Utsav is also known as Vijaya Utsav which is a cultural activity organized by the government of Karnataka.

Badami

Badami got its name from Chalukyas and it is famous for stone temples, rock monuments. Badami is mythologically known as vatapi. Chalukya king pulakeshi built a fort at vatapi and made it as  capital. Most of the building in Badami represent Dravidian architectural style. The best places to visit in Badami are Badami cave temples, Bhutanatha group of temples, Mallikarjuna group of temples, badami fort, Malegitte shivalaya.

Pattadakal

Pattadakallu is located on the banks of river Malaprabha in the Bagalkot district. Pattadakallu is 22kms far from Badami. There are 10 major temples in Pattadakal, all are dedicated to Lord Shiva. All these temples are built in Dravidian and Nagara architectural style. 4 temples are constructed in Dravidian style and 4 are in Nagara style. Rest 2 temples are constructed in both Dravidian and Nagara style. The temples are Virupaksha temple, Jain temple, Kashi Vishwanatha temple, Galaganath temple, Sangameshwara temple, Mallikarjuna temple, Papanatha temple.

Bijapur

Bijapur is also known as Vijayapur, it was founded by Chalukyas between 10th and 11th centuries. During 14th century under the Adil Shah’s Dynasty lot of important monuments were built. This city is a cultural hub where various dynasties ruled this region.Main important places to visit in Bijapur are Gol Gumbaz, Ibrahim Rauza, Malik-e-Maidan, Jami Masjid, Upli Buruj, Gagan Mahal. Gol Gumbaz was built by Mohammad Adil Shah in the year 1656. It is the second largest domb in the world.The ‘Whispering Gallery’ is another famous attraction in the Gol Gumbaz where even the softest sound can be heard. Ibrahim Rauza is built in Persian Muslim architecture and the whole building is adorned with decorative windows and arches.The oldest and the largest mosque in southern India, the Jami Masjid was built by Ali Adil Shah I after he defeated the Vijaynagar Kings.

Dandeli

Dandeli is a wild life santuary located in Uttar kannada district of Karnataka state. Dandeli located on the banks of the River Kali in north Karnataka and is also an ideal vacation for nature lovers. White water rafting, kayaking and canoeing on the Kali River  is an most amazing experience for adventure seekers. Belur

Belur is located near Yagacrhi river banks  in Hassan. Belur was the capital of Hoysala dynasty after Halebidu was destructed by Sultans of North India. Hoysalas are very much interested in art and architecture. During their period lot of temples and  monuments are built. Important places to visit Belur are Channakesava temple, Kappe Chennigaraya Temple,The Gravity Pillar, Veeranarayana Temple, Vishnu Samudra. Channakesava temple was referred as the Vijayanarayana temple. Vishnuvardhana, the Hoysala king built the Chennakesava temple in memorial of his victory against Chalukyas. As per historians this temple celebrates Vishnuvardhana’s conversion from Jain to Vaishnavism.

Halebidu

Halebidu is famous for the beautiful Hoysala Temples such as Hoysaleswara and Kedareswara. The Hoysala temples are known for its sculptures with metal like polishing. Halebidu is one of the most popular tourist places in Karnataka. Hlebidu was capital of Hoysalas during 12th centuary. Halebidu was also called as Dwarasamudra.Along with two temples Hoysaleswara and Kedareswara, there are 2 Jain basadis are situated. The Hoysaleswara temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is built on a star shaped platform. The Kedareswara temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is built in Chalukya style.

Chitradurga Fort


Chitradurga is the district in Karnataka which is Known for historical “Chitradurga Fort”.Chitradurga fort witnessed history from the period of Chalukyas empire and famous for the legend of Onake Obawa. Chitradurga fort is also known as Yelu Suthina Kote, which is protected by seven circular walls. Thuppada Kola Betta, Hidimbagiri, Zadaa Battery (Flag Battery), Kahale Battery (Trumpet Battery), Lal Battery (Red Battery) and Nellikai Battery (Gooseberry Battery) are some of the important landmarks of the fort. Kamanbhavi or the main entrance of the fort is decorated with seven hooded cobra, the legendary twin headed bird, Gandaberunda, the royal swan Rajhamsa and a lotus flower.Banashankari Temple, located inside a little cave is visited by tourists to worship the idol.

Shravanabelagola

 

Shravanabelagola is one of the most popular Jain piligrimage in India. This place is famous for Bahubali statue which is of height 58 feet. This statue is uilt on the top of hill Vindyagiri.There are 620 steps are provided to reach the statue. The statue was carved during the period of Chamundaraya. Shravanabelagola is also famous for several Jain temples and historical sites. Once in 12 years there is a Mahamastabhisheka event will held in Shravanabelagola, which attracs thousands of tourists all over India.

Jog Falls

Jog falls is the one of the highest waterfall in India located in Shimoga district of Karnataka State. It is situated on the Shimoga and Uttara Kannada district border. It is a major tourist attraction. The waterfall is locally known as Geruoppe Falls, Gersoppa Falls and Jogada Gundi. Sharavathi river comes down in 4 different falls known as Raja, Rani, Rover and Rocket. These four cascades merge to fall a huge waterfall. The best time to visit Jog Falls is from August to January while the peak season is from September to December. Usually it takes half day to visit Jog Falls.

Coorg

Coorg is also called as “Scotland of India”. Coorg is largest producer of Coffee in India.  It is one of the highest rainfall place in India.In Madikeri you can enjoy by watching places like Raja seat, Abbey falls, Talakaveri,Omkareshwar temple, Dubare, Bylukuppe. The famous river Kaveri originated in Talakaveri. Coorg also has wild life sanctuaries. They are Talakaveri, Pushpagiri, Brahmagiri sanctuaries and also a national park that is Nagarahole National Park. It is a also good place for trekking. People can go for trekking to the places Thandiyandamole, Brahmagiri and Pushpagiri. It takes minimum 2 days to completely explore Coorg.

Mangalore

Mangalore city situated near Arabian sea and western ghats. This city has both cultural and historical significance. It was rule by most of the powerful dynasties like Kadambas, Chalukyas, Rastrakutas, Vijayanagar dynasties. The temple has original image of Lord Shiva’s Atmalinga.

Agumbe

Agumbe is also known as the “Cherrapunji of the South”. It is one of the wettest places in Karnataka and tropical rainforests region in India. Agumbe is blessed with several waterfalls, especially during the rainy season. Kunchikal Falls, Barkana Falls, Onake Abbi Falls and Jog Falls are some of the popular ones. Agumbe is also known for the Gopala Krishna Temple of the Hoysala period, which has beautiful sculptures.Trekking is a most awesome experience in this region as the extremely greenary and  waterfalls burst into life during the monsoons. Mysore District


Mysore is one of the best tourist place which comes under Karnataka tourism. City is also known as Heritage city of Karnataka because of its temples, palace, forts, churches. Because of its rich in culture beautiful places ,people visits Mysore from various places of world. Mysore Dasara is the event which takes place during Navaratri is the main attration of Mysore. Some of the important places in Mysore are Mysore Palace, Brundavan garden, KRS, Chamundi hills, St.Philomena’s church etc, Kukkaralli lake,Karanji lake. Bangalore District

Nandi Hills

Nandi hills is 60 kms from Bangalore, which is the most popular weekend getaway. Another story is that Yoga Nandeeshwara performed penance here, and so it was named after him. A temple of Yoga Nandeeshwara is situated on top of the hill. Nandi is also commonly called Nandidurga because of the fort build here by the ruler Tippu Sultan. Nandi Hills offers tourists a beauty of nature and excellent climatic condition.

Sangama and Mekedatu

Sangama and Mekedatu is located in Kanakapura Taluk. These are popular picnic places for Bangaloreans. Sangam is the confluence of two rivers – Arkavathi and Kaveri (Cauvery). Mekedatu is just 4 kms from Sangam. You must cross the river at sangam in order to visit mekedatu.During summer, there will be less water and one can easily walk through the river but during monsoon & winter season one has to cross the river by small boats.

Chikmagalur District

Chikmagalur city to the Malnad region of Karnataka. The Western Ghats start from this area. The Yagachi River is originated from the surrounding hills. Chikmagalur is famous for its serene environment, green forests and tall mountains.
